In 1952 the Acton Bolt Engineering Company formed the Bees Archery Club as part of their Sports Section, shooting at The Bees Club, Ladygate Lane in Ruislip (later to be known as Glacier Social Club owned by the Glacier Metal Company). The ground was sold for housing development in 1980.


The club changed its name to Ruislip Bowmen in 1956 when it moved to its new home at Ruislip Manor Sports and Social Club (now just called Ruislip Social Club), and have been shooting there to the present day.

In its time the club has seen many successes, we won the Middlesex League in five consecutive years (1957 to 1961), Then again in 1964, and also in 1971 & 1973. Other Victories at the Middlesex Championships include Pat Mather – 1968 Ladies, Dave Dancer – 1977 Gents and George Carter  – 1986 Gents.

In 1957, Bob Goghan (a member of Ruislip Bowmen) represented Britain in the 18th World Championships, held in Prague, and finished 27th in the gentleman’s category. 1967 saw Joan Bowskill (also a Ruislip Bowmen Member) finish 12th for the Ladies at the 24th World Championships held in Amersfoort, Holland.
